History Behind the Rose Gold Engagement Ring
Rose gold, sometimes called pink gold, is continuing to grow in popularity with couples shopping for their perfect engagement ring. And it’s not hard to understand why – rose gold is warm, luxurious, and romantic.
Rose gold is a mixture of yellow gold, copper and silver. The copper gives it a redded color than yellow gold naturally has. The silver helps to tone down the redness of the copper, achieving a subtle pink shade. No one knows exactly who came up with the idea of adding copper to gold, but it is believed that rose gold first became popular in Russia at the beginning of the 19th century. Rose gold is often referred to as “Russian gold” as it was so popular in Russia.
Even though rose gold has become incredibly popular in the past few years, it’s not actually new to the jewelry world. Rose gold was brought to the masses in the early 19th century by famed jeweler Peter Carl Fabergé, who incorporated rose gold in his renowned Fabergé Eggs. The jeweler was tasked with creating these ornate eggs to be Easter gifts for Russian tsars Alexander III and Nicholas II’s family.
Rose gold made a comeback in the 1920s when Cartier released the sought-after Trinityring, a simple design featuring intertwining bands of white gold, yellow gold, and rose gold. And while platinum and white gold were popular during the Art Deco period of the 1930s and 1940s, platinum became reserved for war efforts when World War II began in 1939, so rose gold took its place and grew in popularity.
For today's brides, rose gold is continuing to trend. Celebrities and style icons are enjoying the romantic hue of rose gold, with many choosing the metal for their engagement rings.
Connect with Gold & Diamond Source
"We absolutely LOVE the Gold and Diamond Source! Debbie is by far the best in customer satisfaction and expertise. My husband bought my engagement ring and wedding band here about 6 years ago. We bring it every 6 months for service and cleaning....which of course has prompted us to buy other pieces of jewelry. They have the highest quality gold and diamonds with the best prices. And we have compared diligently and did our homework. They always honor their word with replacing and repairing anything that happens to any of our pieces because we are such loyal customers and bring our pieces in for service every 6 months minimum. I highly recommend you stop in and check out their selection Ask for Debbie... you will thank me, I promise!" — Robyn M. on Yelp
