Can You Add Length To A Gold Chain?
Choosing the best length for a gold chain can be tricky. It will hang differently depending on the size and height of the person wearing it. The size and weight of the pendant are influencing factors, as well as the style, alloy and strength of the chain. When you find the perfect chain, but discover it is not quite long enough, you have options. At Gold and Diamond Source, we can add length to your gold chains.
Gold Chain Lengths Can Be Extended
Our Master Jewelers use state-of-the-art tools and technology to adjust the length of your gold chain. Whether it is a necklace, bracelet or anklet, there are four preferred techniques to extend it.
This method works best for standard style chains with defined links, including Figaro or cable. These chains are manufactured at a width of 1-3 mm. We source a section of chain that matches yours and attach it to achieve the desired length.
Sometimes your chain may be quite fine or fragile, making it a challenge to add a seamless extension. In this case, we can add a length of chain with wider links next to the clasp. This gives you the advantage of manually adjusting the length of the chain since the clasp can be clipped to any of the wider links.
For chains that are very wide, such as curb or Cuban chains with complex designs, we create a custom extension. We design individual sections and incorporate them into the existing pattern. The process takes longer to complete, but the result is a seamless appearance.
To make a chain easy to adjust each time you wear it, we start with an add-on extension. We then add a bolo bead and a tab if your chain tolerates it. This makes it simple to change the length by holding the bead and pulling the tab. It is ideal for anyone that has difficulty with using regular clasps.
